I have been hearing about the hardships which parents get when their kids enter into teenage years. I am experiencing that now and it is getting harder to have patience and on the same time ensure that my teenage kids are learning values and discipline. Please help!

  In this stage everything changes, there are physical, emotional, social changes. It is a radical change because the brain undergoes many transformations. On a physical level there is a great discharge of hormones and on a social level they care more about friends than family.
  
  On an emotional level there is a mourning because they are leaving childhood, but it also has more meaning because parents are also changing with the crisis of adulthood. So, while the adolescent has a surge of hormones, the father is in a moment when his hormones are going down.
  
  This explains why everything is so difficult for you. Although there is no magic recipe, these are things you could try:
  1. Talk openly with your children, listening to them instead of judging them. This will allow you to gain their trust, but also to understand their way of thinking.
  2. Be clear about limits and authority. You want them to understand who's boss, but it should always be in a respectful way. Talk to them explaining what you expect of them, and if they don't comply, seek appropriate sanctions.
  3. Generate a climate of love and respect, doing activities that interest them. Establishing a healthy bond with your children will be what will allow them to respect you and believe in your rules.
